Music is one of the core pillars of Puglia Culture. On one side, system-wideinitiatives are implemented through Puglia Sounds, the Apulia Region’sprogramme for the development of the regional music ecosystem, andthrough Medimex. On the other, a broad range of events, projects andactivities has, in recent years, renewed and strengthened Puglia’s musicalidentity.
Major festivals attract thousands of spectators every year, while numerousinitiatives celebrate the region’s rich musical traditions. Music is also featuredacross theatre seasons, regional festivals and special projects, includingprogrammes dedicated to young audiences.
Puglia Sounds is a project of the Puglia Region designed to support Apulianmusicians and music professionals. It offers a comprehensive set oftools—delivered through public calls and memoranda of understanding—tosupport every stage of a music professional’s work: creation and production,touring, networking and internationalisation.
Launched in 2010, Puglia Sounds continues to evolve as a key partner andfacilitator in the dialogue among musicians, organisations and institutions.
Medimex is the Apulia Region’s International Festival & Music Conference.Produced and organised annually by Puglia Sounds, it was launched in 2011as a trade fair featuring a full programme of events, live performances andguest artists. Since 2017, it has grown into a festival hosting major concertsalongside a dynamic and constantly updated conference dedicated to themusic industry and music education.
In addition to Bari, Medimex also takes place in Foggia and Taranto.
